The case for editorial restraint in enterprise UI

Typography and hierarchy carry more weight than ornament. A field note from years of working with serious clients.

Restraint is not the absence of design. It is design that trusts the content.

What we leave out

We rarely use drop shadows, gradients, or busy iconography in enterprise tools. We invest the budget in typography — type pair, scale, rhythm — and let the interface get out of the user's way.
